Description

Caterpie live mainly in thick forested areas.

They spend 60% of their day eating, high up in the trees. This keeps them well away from predators and gives them an abundance of food such as fresh leaves and occationally bark.

They live to eat as their main purpose in life is to evolve. Storing up as much energy as they can ready for their metamorphasis.
As civilisation approaches on their habitats, and many forests being cut down, Caterpie are now seen as a nucence, especially to farmers whos crops are eaten. Farmers used to spray poisons onto their feilds to kill caterpie, but a few years ago a new invention was created called Pitch Pest, which emits a high frequency whine, too high for humans to hear, driving the caterpie and other pests away.

Caterpie are now actually farmed themselves.
They produce a silk that they use to protect themselves from predators and allows them to get from tree to tree. They also wrap themselves up in this silk, creating a cacoon. The reason this silk is farmed is because its light, durable but most of all, as strong as steel.
Many attempts have been made to synthisize the substance but to no avail, and Caterpie Farming is quickly growing to be a lucarive market.

Caterpie have a hard, translucent shell on top and a soft underbelly. This is uncommen in caterpillers but helps them survive in the wild, and in battle. They have an interesting move that many bug type Poke'mon use called Harden. They secreet a gell like subtance from the cracks in the shell, that trickles over its shell, quickly hardening. They do this if they feel in extreme danger.

Many people think the two black dots on its head are its eyes, however its real eyes are located closer to its mouth. They have these 'false eyes' as a way to scare off predators, making it look more menacing that in actually is. Scientists even beleive that its colour scheme is meant to look like a very large snake from afar. This is supported by its ability to rear up on its tail.
Near the end of its tail it has two flat pads covered in grooves that can allow it to grip to nearly any surface. When threatened, a caterpie will rear up and make itself look as fearce as possible.

The pink 'horn' on its head not only looks like a snakes tounge it has similar properties. Snakes use their tounges to smell the air around them, allowing them to hunt down prey. Caterpies 'horn' can smell where food is and even pick up feramones from other creatures. They use this to help them determine if their guise is scaring a predator or apponent, if not, they use their silk to attack or get away from the danger.

At the tip of their tail they have a rattle, similar to a rattle snake.
When they feel threatened they shake this rattle so fast it makes a hiss like sound. The tail is extremely tough and can even be used as a powerful weapon in battle.
