Spotted in the dark by JoshuaDunlop Spotted in the dark by JoshuaDunlop
Parasects are totally blind. living in such dark enviornments meant that parasect had to learn how to survive without vision. Therfore is sense of smell and touch have been highned tenfold and can easily dectect when an intruder or enemy are coming. Also as it is blind the spores from the now enormous mushroom on its back are now very potant and can knock out somthing three times its size.
They eat fungus and insects that they find on the walls of caves and communicate through pheromones that they release from their shroom.

You know what else might be interesting? The mushroom on its back might actually be its entire brain, hence why the mushroom controls the entire host. Must make it really smart, too.

if it is id imagine it wouldnt be the actual shroom thats the brain but part of the shroom thats deep in the body, the shroom is in too much of a vunrable position

I know, their practically zombies, speaking of zombies, for the history section on your website, think about righting about lavender town and buried alive, their might not be an actual story, so maybe you can make your own logical story.

I know that, it WAS going to be real, but Gamefreak canceled that idea, for this it can be a little mystery of lavender town, which is I was going for.

actually no. gamefreak wasn't going to do this, jwittz covered it in his lavender town episode and showed just how silly it really is. plus, just imagine the conversation at that time

developer 1: hello, how's pokemon red/blue going along?

developer 2:great, but we have a strange problem

dev 1: oh no, what's going on?

dev 2: you know the zombie guy who eats the player at pokemon tower?

dev 1: you mean buried alive?

dev 2:yeah, for some reason after you defeated him the game crashes

dev 1: oh that is bad, do you think replacing him with a marowak will work

dev 2:yeah... that sounds like a great idea

plus when you think of it, buried alive wouldn't have fit in at all with the rest of the story. plus if he did eat the player, how would you progress?

might be creepy, but not too far off from other parasitic fungi i know. if you look at Cordyceps on wikipidia or something, you'll find its a group of parasitic fungi that totally takes over its host (including giant spiders) and can even turn ants into zombies, kinda like parasect

...They glow!!! Forget Zubats, if I went spleunking and ran into this thing, I'd run away screaming, and never go back in.

Shroomish is so symbolic. It's like a hallucigon addiction. He's a slave to the shrooms, man.

Poor parasect.

Actually parasect is based on real-life fungi that infect insects and change their behavior, the fungal genus Cordyceps :)

From what I understand, the mushroom has completely overtaken the host's own brain, taking control of the body. The mushroom's influence has stunted the insect's metamorphosis, causing Parasect to resemble a grotesque, exaggerated version of its previous form, Paras.
